History
1957 Sep.

Kenko Co., Ltd. was established in Nihonbashi-Muromachi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo with a capital of 500,000 yen. Kenzo Shirai and Masao Ono were appointed as Representative Directors, and branch offices were opened in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka.

1965 Apr.

Capital was increased to 5,000,000 yen, and Kenzo Shirai resigned as Representative Director and Masao Ono became President.

1969 Dec.

The head office building was completed in Nerima-ku, Tokyo.

1974 Oct.

Kenko Optical Co., Ltd. was founded as an affiliate for the purpose of manufacturing optical products.

1980 May

The Product Center was completed and opened in Miyoshi-cho, Saitama Prefecture.

1981 Apr.

Capital was increased to 50 million yen.

1985 Apr.

Masao Ono resigned as President, and Toru Yamanaka took his place.

1987 Sep.

The 30th anniversary ceremony was held in the Indonesian resort island of Bali.

1989 Feb.

Koei Seiki Co., Ltd. was purchased and it started operations as an affiliate. (The company changed its name to Kenko Optics Co., Ltd. in 1990.)

Sep.

Philippine Kenko Corporation was established in Mactan.

1992 June

Capital was increased to 100 million yen.

1993 Apr.

Kenko invested capital in T.H.K. Photo Products Inc. (USA)

1994 Mar.

Kenko took over the Sales Division of Tokina Optical Co., Ltd. and started sales of Tokina brand lenses.

1997 Mar.

Took over Asia Optical Co., Ltd. as an affiliate. Acquired Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd. as an affiliate.

Apr.

The head office was moved to Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo and remodeled.

Sep.

Took over the Sales Division of Daiwa Co., Ltd.

1998 Apr.

Acquired Tasco Japan Co., Ltd. as an affiliate.

2000 Sep.

Acquired Philippine Sakurai Plastics as an affiliate.

2001 Mar.

Took over SLIK Co., Ltd. as an affiliate.

2002 Mar.

The Distribution Center was relocated to Hidaka City, Saitama Prefecture for extension of business.

2003 Mar.

The operations of the Inspection Division of the Equipment Department of Daiwa Co., Ltd. was transferred to Tokina Co., Ltd.

Apr.

Kenko Optics Co., Ltd. merged with Asia Optical Co., Ltd.

2005 Feb.

Shanghai KTS Co., Ltd. was established in China.

Sep.

Kenko Optics Co., Ltd. merged with Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd.

2006 Mar.

The operations of the Special Equipment Sales Department was transferred to Tokina Co., Ltd.

July

Kenko Professional Imaging Co., Ltd. was founded as an affiliate.

2007 Jan.

The 50th anniversary ceremony was held in Hawaii.

Nov.

Took over the Sales Division of Aska Co., Ltd.

Dec.

Became a holding company of Fujimoto Photo industrial Co., Ltd.

2008 Feb.

Merged with and acquired Fujimoto Photo industrial Co., Ltd.

Nov.

Merged with Kesher Shalom.

2010 Dec.

Merged with Fu-tech Co., Ltd.

2011 June

Acquired Cokin France S.A.S.U as an affiliate.
Kenko Co., Ltd. and Tokina Co., Ltd. merged to form Kenko Tokina.Co., Ltd.

2014 Mar.

Capital was increased to 130 million yen.

Sep.

Head-office was relocated and refurbished in Nakano, Tokyo.

2015 Sep.

Acquired Formatt Hitech Ltd. as an affiliate.
